Kaveh Madani, an Iranian researcher and water specialist, and director of the "Water, Environment, and Health" Institute at the United Nations University in Canada, received the Stockholm Water Prize 2026, known as the "Nobel Prize for Water," from Carl Gustaf Folke Hubertus, King of Sweden, on Wednesday, September 4.

This award was presented to him during the official ceremony of World Water Week in Stockholm in recognition of Kaveh Madani's research and activities in water resource management, water governance, and providing innovative perspectives to address the water crisis. Kaveh Madani was previously announced as the winner of this award in March, and the award committee praised his research in water resource management and linking science with policymaking, diplomacy, and public communication.

The Stockholm Water Prize has been awarded annually since 1991, and the ceremony is organized by the Stockholm Water Foundation in collaboration with the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences. This prize, which includes one million Swedish kronor and a crystal trophy, is awarded to individuals or organizations that have made outstanding achievements in the protection, management, and sustainable use of water resources.

کاوه مدنی، پژوهشگر و متخصص ایرانی حوزه آب و مدیر مؤسسه «آب، محیط‌زیست و سلامت» دانشگاه سازمان ملل در کانادا روز چهارشنبه چهارم شهریور جایزه آب استکهلم ۲۰۲۶، معروف به «نوبل آب»، را از کارل گوستاف شانزدهم، پادشاه سوئد، دریافت کرد.

این جایزه در مراسم رسمی هفته جهانی آب در استکهلم به پاس پژوهش‌ها و فعالیت‌های کاوه مدنی در زمینه مدیریت منابع آب، حکمرانی آب و ارائه دیدگاه‌های نوین برای مواجهه با بحران آب به او اهدا شده است.
کاوه مدنی پیش‌تر در ماه مارس به‌عنوان برنده این جایزه معرفی شده بود و کمیته جایزه، از پژوهش‌های او در مدیریت منابع آب و پیوند دادن علم با سیاست‌گذاری، دیپلماسی و ارتباطات عمومی تقدیر کرده بود.
جایزه آب استکهلم از سال ۱۹۹۱ به صورت سالانه اعطا می‌شود و مراسم آن را بنیاد آب استکهلم با همکاری آکادمی سلطنتی علوم سوئد برگزار می‌کند.
این جایزه که شامل یک میلیون کرون سوئد و یک تندیس کریستالی است به افراد یا سازمان‌هایی اهدا می‌شود که دستاوردهای برجسته‌ای در حفاظت، مدیریت و استفاده پایدار از منابع آب داشته باشند.
