The Washington Post reported, citing informed sources, that several senior U.S. military officials have warned Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth that continuing extensive military operations against the Islamic Republic is unsustainable and undermines the U.S. military's ability to address other threats, including defending U.S. territory.

According to these individuals, these warnings, presented to Hegseth in the August 14 version of the "Defense Secretary's Orders Book" by the heads of the Army, Navy, and Air Force, along with four-star commanders responsible for U.S. military operations in Europe, Asia, and Latin America, are part of a classified document.

The report states that given Trump's emphasis that military options remain on the table, U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM), which is responsible for managing the war with the Islamic Republic, has kept over 50,000 troops on standby for months to act if the President issues orders for further attacks.

According to informed sources, the August 14 version of the Defense Secretary's Orders Book stipulates that part of the forces stationed in the Middle East will remain in the region until the end of September, and the mission of some others will be extended until 2027. The possibility of further extensions of these deployments has led military commanders to express their concerns openly.

These sources indicate that senior commanders of U.S. European Command, Pacific Command, and Southern Command, along with the senior naval commander, have recorded a "disagreement" in this document; meaning they do not agree with the Defense Secretary's order to extend their deployments, but they will carry it out.

واشینگتن‌پست به نقل از افراد آگاه گزارش داد چند مقام ارشد نظامی آمریکا به پیت هگست، وزیر جنگ آمریکا، هشدار داده‌اند که ادامه عملیات نظامی گسترده علیه جمهوری اسلامی پایدار نیست و توان ارتش آمریکا را برای مقابله با تهدیدهای دیگر، از جمله دفاع از خاک آمریکا، تضعیف می‌کند.

به گفته این افراد، این هشدارها که روسای ارتش، نیروی دریایی و نیروی هوایی آمریکا، همراه با فرماندهان چهارستاره مسئول عملیات نظامی آمریکا در اروپا، آسیا و آمریکای لاتین، در نسخه ۲۳ مرداد «کتاب دستورات وزیر جنگ» به هگست ارائه کرده‌اند، بخشی از یک سند محرمانه است.

بر اساس این گزارش، با توجه به تاکید ترامپ بر اینکه گزینه نظامی همچنان روی میز است، ستاد فرماندهی مرکزی آمریکا (سنتکام)، که مسئول اداره جنگ با جمهوری اسلامی است، ماه‌هاست بیش از ۵۰ هزار نیرو را در حالت آماده‌باش نگه داشته تا در صورت صدور دستور حملات بیشتر از سوی رییس‌جمهوری وارد عمل شوند.

به گفته افراد آگاه، نسخه ۲۳ مرداد کتاب دستورات وزیر جنگ مقرر کرده است که بخشی از نیروهای مستقر در خاورمیانه تا پایان سپتامبر در منطقه باقی بمانند و ماموریت برخی دیگر تا سال ۲۰۲۷ تمدید شود. احتمال تمدید بیشتر این استقرارها باعث شد فرماندهان نظامی نگرانی‌های خود را آشکارا مطرح کنند.

به گفته این منابع، فرماندهان ارشد فرماندهی اروپا، فرماندهی اقیانوس آرام و فرماندهی جنوبی آمریکا، همراه با فرمانده ارشد نیروی دریایی، در این سند نظر «عدم موافقت» ثبت کرده‌اند؛ به این معنا که با دستور وزیر جنگ برای تمدید استقرار نیروهایشان موافق نیستند، اما آن را اجرا خواهند کرد.
