The foreign and defense ministers of Turkey, Saudi Arabia, and Pakistan, along with military commanders from the three countries, held the first meeting of their defense pact known as the Makkah Pact in Istanbul on Sunday, September 9.

Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, and Turkey signed this agreement in the city of Makkah on Friday, August 16.

According to a statement from the three countries, an armed attack on any one of them will be considered an attack on all members; a principle that bears a striking resemblance to Article 5 of the North Atlantic Treaty, NATO.

Hakan Fidan explained on Saturday, August 17, in an interview with the state-run Anadolu Agency that the new coalition has not been formed against Iran or any other country, and its purpose is to provide a general commitment to support the security of the three member countries.

On Sunday, reports emerged about the possibility of seven other Arab countries joining this pact.

وزرای خارجه و دفاع ترکیه، عربستان و پاکستان همراه با فرماندهان نظامی سه کشور روز یکشنبه نهم شهریور در استانبول اولین نشست پیمان دفاعی خود موسوم به پیمان مکه را برگزار کردند.

عربستان سعودی، پاکستان و ترکیه روز جمعه ۱۶ مرداد این توافق را در شهر مکه امضا کردند.

بر اساس بیانیه سه کشور، حمله مسلحانه به هر یک از آنها به‌منزله حمله به همه اعضا تلقی خواهد شد؛ اصلی که شباهت آشکاری با ماده ۵ پیمان آتلانتیک شمالی، ناتو، دارد.

هاکان فیدان روز شنبه ۱۷ مرداد در گفت‌وگو با خبرگزاری دولتی آناتولی توضیح داد که ائتلاف جدید علیه ایران یا هیچ کشور دیگری شکل نگرفته و هدف از آن، ارائه یک تعهد کلی برای حمایت از امنیت سه کشور عضو است.

روز یکشنبه گزارش‌هایی از احتمال پیوستن هفت کشور عربی دیگر به این پیمان منتشر شد.
