The European Union announced on Monday that it will continue to work with the United States and other international partners and the G7 "to maintain pressure on Iran and help reduce tensions and regional stability."

The statement reads: "The EU welcomes efforts to ensure that Iran ceases its destabilizing activities and engages in good faith in peace negotiations, including through further economic pressure, including U.S.-led economic expulsion operations."

"Economic expulsion operations" is the title given by U.S. officials to the new economic pressure program on the Islamic Republic.

The EU's statement comes ahead of the G20 meeting hosted by the United States.

Scott Basset, the U.S. Treasury Secretary, told Reuters that at this meeting, he will ask finance ministers and central bank governors from around the world to cut their economic ties with Iran; otherwise, they will face U.S. secondary sanctions.

اتحادیه اروپا روز دوشنبه اعلام کرد که به همکاری با ایالات متحده و سایر شرکای بین‌المللی و گروه هفت «برای حفظ فشار بر ایران و کمک به کاهش تنش و ثبات منطقه‌ای» ادامه خواهد داد.

در این بیانیه آمده است:‌ «اتحادیه اروپا از تلاش‌ها برای اطمینان از اینکه ایران فعالیت‌های بی‌ثبات‌کننده خود را متوقف کند و با حسن نیت در مذاکرات صلح شرکت کند، از جمله از طریق فشار اقتصادی بیشتر، شامل عملیات طرد اقتصادی به رهبری ایالات متحده، استقبال می‌کند.»

«عملیات طرد اقتصادی» عنوانی است که مقام‌های دولت آمریکا بر برنامه فشار اقتصادی تازه بر جمهوری اسلامی گذاشته‌اند.

بیانیه اتحادیه اروپا در آستانه آغاز نشست گروه ۲۰ به میزبانی آمریکا صادر شده است.

اسکات بسنت، وزیر خزانه‌داری آمریکا به خبرگزاری رویترز گفته است در این نشست از وزیران دارایی و روسای بانک‌های مرکزی کشورهای جهان خواهد خواست تا روابط اقتصادی‌شان را با ایران قطع کنند؛ در غیر این صورت با تحریم‌های ثانویه آمریکا روبه‌رو خواهند شد.
