Axios reported, citing three American officials, that Donald Trump, the President of the United States, and his senior advisors are considering conducting limited strikes in the Strait of Hormuz to prevent the Islamic Republic from rebuilding its radar and missile capabilities to attack ships.

According to the report, this plan, which was prepared by U.S. Central Command last week and supported by Defense Secretary Mark Esper, had not been approved by Trump before the exchange of fire with Iran this weekend. However, he may agree to it following the recent escalation of tensions.

One U.S. official stated that the main idea of the plan is to reduce the risk of attacks from Tehran on oil tankers, U.S. Navy vessels, and U.S. Air Force aircraft; according to this official, the goal is to "mow the lawn."

One White House official said, "The President has all options on the table. The Iranians want to negotiate, but they always come a day late and a dollar short."

On Monday evening, Trump told Fox News that the U.S. would respond to the Republic's attacks and "will target them very hard."

بر اساس این گزارش، این طرح که طی هفته گذشته توسط فرماندهی مرکزی آمریکا تهیه و از سوی وزیر جنگ، پیت هگست، حمایت شده بود، پیش از تبادل آتش این آخر هفته با ایران به تایید ترامپ نرسیده بود. اما او ممکن است پس از تشدید جدید تنش‌ها با آن موافقت کند.

یکی از مقامات آمریکایی گفت ایده اصلی این طرح، کاهش خطر حملات تهران به نفتکش‌ها، شناورهای نیروی دریایی آمریکا و هواپیماهای نیروی هوایی آمریکا است؛ به گفته این مقام، هدف «کوتاه کردن چمن» است.

یکی از مقامات کاخ سفید گفت: «رییس‌جمهور همه گزینه‌ها را در اختیار دارد. ایرانی‌ها می‌خواهند توافق کنند، اما همیشه یک روز دیر و یک دلار کم می‌آورند.»

ترامپ عصر دوشنبه به فاکس‌نیوز گفت که آمریکا به حملات جمهوری پاسخ خواهد داد و «آنها را به‌شدت هدف قرار خواهد داد».
