The United States has sanctioned a bank based in Turkey and two of its affiliated companies for facilitating the transfer of tens of millions of dollars to the Quds Force of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps and providing the Islamic Republic with access to the international banking network.

On Friday, September 4, the U.S. Treasury Department announced that "Golden Global Bank" and its two subsidiaries, "Golden Global Warlick Kiralama" and "Golden Global Portföy Yönetimi," have been added to the sanctions list as part of an "economic exclusion" operation. All three entities are based in Turkey.

The U.S. Treasury Department also stated on its official account on the social media platform "X" that this action is part of the "economic exclusion" operation aimed at cutting off the Islamic Republic's "vital financial arteries" in Turkey. According to the department, Golden Global Bank and its affiliated companies have facilitated tens of millions of dollars in transactions for the Quds Force and provided significant access to brokerage banking services for the Islamic Republic; access that enables the international movement of the Iranian government's financial resources.

Scott Basset, the U.S. Treasury Secretary, referred to the Trump administration's campaign to cut off the Islamic Republic's financial resources, stating that financial institutions continue to realize that the United States is serious about implementing the "economic exclusion" operation.

He added that the U.S. hopes that more banks will not need to be sanctioned, but this depends on the international community quickly stopping its support for the Iranian government. Mr. Basset also emphasized that the United States, along with its allies and partners, will continue actions against the financial networks of the Islamic Republic.

According to the U.S. Treasury Department, Golden Global Bank was established to facilitate the transfer of the Islamic Republic's oil revenues from China to Turkey; revenues that could be converted into cash and gold after being transferred to Turkey.

The Treasury Department states that this bank has also knowingly offered brokerage banking services to financial institutions of the Islamic Republic, thereby enabling transactions through accounts controlled by the Quds Force and its affiliated networks.

The Treasury Department's announcement also referenced the network of "Sitki Ayan," a Turkish businessman. The United States had previously sanctioned this network in 2022 due to its role in transferring hundreds of millions of dollars in oil revenues related to the Quds Force.

Scott Basset, the U.S. Treasury Secretary, wrote on the social media platform X on Friday, September 4, that since the re-establishment of the U.S. blockade, no Iranian crude oil shipment has successfully passed through the Strait of Hormuz to reach China. He added that crude oil is piling up on ships trapped inside the strait, and there is no possibility of replacing exported reserves. Basset wrote: "Iran's vital export route is being cut off; stranded oil, limited storage capacity, and rapidly declining revenues."
