Erfan Mirzaei, a 21-year-old rapper and one of the detainees from the protests in December 2024, has died in Dashtgerd prison in Isfahan.

Two different narratives have emerged regarding the circumstances of his death; IranWire reported that he was executed, while Independent Persian stated that he died due to torture.

According to IranWire, Mirzaei was arrested after being identified in connection with the protests and was sentenced to death on charges of "moharebeh" (waging war against God). This media outlet claims that his sentence was carried out on Sunday, September 15, without prior notice to his family, and their efforts to prevent the execution were unsuccessful.

IranWire also reported, citing its sources, that Mirzaei's family had previously been threatened to refrain from disclosing information about the case and the death sentence. According to these sources, multiple signs of injury and bruising were observed on his body and face after his death, and his body was buried under security restrictions in the village of Gharghan in Fereydun.

In contrast, Independent Persian provided a different account of his death, citing Mirzaei's relatives, stating that the young man died as a result of severe torture and beating during his detention. His family reported that upon receiving his body, they noticed fractures in his hands, legs, and pelvis, which they attribute to mistreatment in prison.

According to this report, Mirzaei was arrested in late Farvardin 1405 (April 2026) at a checkpoint in Shahinshahr; officers transferred him to Dashtgerd prison after inspecting his mobile phone and finding videos related to his participation in the protests. His relatives claim that he was subjected to pressure and torture to obtain forced confessions during his months of detention.

Dadban emphasizes that the significant difference between the two narratives regarding the cause of Erfan Mirzaei's death underscores the necessity for an independent, impartial, and transparent investigation into his death in custody. Article 38 of the Constitution prohibits torture for obtaining confessions or information and considers confessions obtained under duress to be invalid; furthermore, any suspicious death in prison, especially accompanied by claims of torture and signs of injury, necessitates effective investigation and accountability from officials.

According to the information received, security forces, fearing a public gathering, did not allow Erfan Mirzaei to be buried in Isfahan, and his body was buried on Tuesday, September 16, in the village of Gharghan in Fereydun County. The exact time of Erfan Mirzaei's arrest is unclear, but sources say he was detained in connection with the protests in December.

According to this information, officers found a video on Mirzaei's mobile phone showing clashes between protesters and government forces, which was used as evidence against him in the case.

عرفان میرزایی، خواننده رپ ۲۱ ساله و از بازداشت‌شدگان اعتراضات دی‌ماه ۱۴۰۴، در زندان دستگرد اصفهان جان باخته است.

درباره چگونگی مرگ او دو روایت متفاوت منتشر شده؛ ایران‌وایر از اجرای حکم اعدام و ایندیپندنت فارسی از مرگ بر اثر شکنجه خبر داده است.

بر اساس گزارش ایران‌وایر، میرزایی پس از شناسایی در ارتباط با اعتراضات بازداشت و با اتهام «محاربه» به اعدام محکوم شد.
این رسانه می‌گوید حکم او روز یکشنبه ۱۵ شهریور بدون اطلاع قبلی خانواده اجرا شد و تلاش نزدیکانش برای جلوگیری از اعدام نیز نتیجه‌ای نداشت.

ایران‌وایر همچنین به نقل از منابع خود گزارش داده است که خانواده میرزایی پیش‌تر برای خودداری از اطلاع‌رسانی درباره پرونده و حکم اعدام تهدید شده بودند.
به گفته این منابع، آثار متعدد جراحت و کبودی نیز پس از مرگ بر بدن و صورت او مشاهده شده و پیکرش با محدودیت‌های امنیتی در روستای غرغن فریدن به خاک سپرده شده است.

در مقابل، ایندیپندنت فارسی به نقل از نزدیکان میرزایی روایت متفاوتی از مرگ او ارایه کرده و نوشته است که این جوان در نتیجه شکنجه و ضرب‌وجرح شدید در دوران بازداشت جان باخته است.
خانواده او گفته‌اند هنگام تحویل پیکر، شکستگی‌هایی در دست‌ها، پا و لگن مشاهده کرده‌اند که آن را ناشی از بدرفتاری در زندان می‌دانند.

بر اساس این گزارش، میرزایی اواخر فروردین ۱۴۰۵ در یک ایست بازرسی در شاهین‌شهر بازداشت شد؛ ماموران پس از بازرسی تلفن همراه او و مشاهده ویدیوهایی مرتبط با حضورش در اعتراضات، وی را به زندان دستگرد منتقل کردند. نزدیکانش می‌گویند او در ماه‌های بازداشت برای گرفتن اعتراف اجباری تحت فشار و شکنجه قرار داشته است.

دادبان تاکید می‌کند، تفاوت جدی میان دو روایت درباره علت مرگ عرفان میرزایی، ضرورت انجام تحقیقی مستقل، بی‌طرفانه و شفاف درباره مرگ او در بازداشت را دوچندان می‌کند. اصل ۳۸ قانون اساسی شکنجه برای گرفتن اقرار یا اطلاعات را ممنوع و اعتراف حاصل از اجبار را فاقد اعتبار می‌داند؛ ضمن آنکه هر مرگ مشکوک در زندان، به‌ویژه همراه با ادعای شکنجه و آثار جراحت، مستلزم بررسی موثر و پاسخگویی مسئولان است.

اطلاعات رسیده حاکی است پیکر او هنگام خاکسپاری، آثار متعدد شکنجه داشته و دست و صورت و لگن‌اش به شدت متورم بوده است.

بنا به اطلاعات رسیده، ماموران امنیتی به دلیل ترس از تجمع مردم، اجازه خاکسپاری عرفان میرزایی در اصفهان را ندادند و پیکر او روز دوشنبه ۱۶ شهریور در روستای غرغن شهرستان فریدن به خاک سپرده شد.
زمان دقیق بازداشت عرفان میرزایی مشخص نیست اما منابع می‌گویند که او در ارتباط با اعتراض‌های دی‌ماه بازداشت شده بود.

بنابر این اطلاعات، ماموران پس از بازداشت، ویدیویی را در تلفن همراه میرزایی پیدا کردند که درگیری میان معترضان و نیروهای حکومتی را نشان می‌داد و از آن به‌عنوان مدرکی علیه او در پرونده استفاده شده است.
