Ali Zarei, one of the eye injury victims of the nationwide protests of 2022 and a political prisoner held in Qazal Hesar prison, stated in a phone call from prison that his death sentence has been confirmed by the judiciary of the Islamic Republic.

In this message, he emphasized his innocence and stated that he has not committed any violent acts.

Zarei called on the people of Iran, human rights activists, and the United Nations to "be his voice" and take action to prevent the execution of his sentence.

Ali Zarei was injured in the eye by a pellet during the "Women, Life, Freedom" protests in 2022. After spending some time abroad, he returned to the country and was arrested. The 23rd branch of the Tehran Revolutionary Court had previously sentenced Zarei to death on charges of "corruption on earth." In his recent message, he described this sentence as unjust and reiterated that he has not committed any violent acts.

علی زارعی، از آسیب‌دیدگان چشمی اعتراضات سراسری ۱۴۰۱ و زندانی سیاسی محبوس در زندان قزل‌حصار، در یک تماس تلفنی از زندان گفت حکم اعدام او در دستگاه قضایی جمهوری اسلامی تأیید شده است.

او در این پیام بر بی‌گناهی خود تأکید کرد و گفت هیچ اقدام خشونت‌آمیزی انجام نداده است.

زارعی از مردم ایران، فعالان حقوق بشر و سازمان ملل متحد خواست «صدای او باشند» و برای جلوگیری از اجرای حکم اعدامش اقدام کنند.

علی زارعی در جریان اعتراضات «زن، زندگی، آزادی» در سال ۱۴۰۱ بر اثر اصابت ساچمه از ناحیه چشم آسیب دید. او پس از مدتی اقامت در خارج از ایران به کشور بازگشت و بازداشت شد.
شعبه ۲۳ دادگاه انقلاب تهران پیشتر زارعی را به اتهام «افساد فی‌الارض» به اعدام محکوم کرده بود. او در پیام تازه خود این حکم را ناعادلانه خوانده و بار دیگر تأکید کرده است که مرتکب اقدام خشونت‌آمیزی نشده است.
