Donald Trump, the President of the United States, said on Sunday, September 13, 2026, that the "Iran issue" may be resolved before the U.S. midterm elections, but in any case, the war with Iran will end immediately after these elections.

During his trip to Ireland and on the sidelines of the Open Golf Championship in Ireland, Trump commented on the possibility of an agreement with the Islamic Republic, stating that Iran is very eager for a deal and is continuously reaching out to the U.S., but Washington will only accept an agreement that he describes as "right" and desirable.

He also responded to a question about the meeting of the foreign ministers of the Gulf countries and the Sea of Oman with Iran, saying that this matter is not important to the U.S. and the decision regarding the meeting with the Islamic Republic is up to those countries themselves.

This meeting is scheduled to take place on Tuesday in Oman. Iran has stated that one of the topics of discussion at this meeting will be the new transit route in the Strait of Hormuz. Abbas Araghchi, the foreign minister of the Islamic Republic, has also reiterated that Iran's condition for reopening the Strait of Hormuz is the return of the U.S. to its commitments under the Islamabad agreement.
