Oman's Foreign Minister announced the postponement of the meeting between Iran and the Gulf Cooperation Council countries and the region; a meeting that was scheduled to take place on Monday, September 23, in Salalah, Oman, focusing on the situation in the Strait of Hormuz.

Badr al-Busaidi, Oman's Foreign Minister, wrote on X network on Sunday, September 22, that this meeting was postponed "to achieve consensus." He emphasized that Oman remains committed to strengthening dialogues that contribute to "stability and sustainable cooperation in the region."

Abbas Araghchi, the Foreign Minister of the Islamic Republic, had previously stated that he would participate in the eight-party meeting of the foreign ministers of the Gulf and Oman Sea coastal countries in Salalah on Monday. The meeting was supposed to discuss Iran and Oman's proposal to create a mechanism for the safe passage of ships in the Strait of Hormuz.

The announcement of the postponement comes as the United States had previously emphasized that it would not participate in negotiations related to the Strait of Hormuz and would focus any direct negotiations with the Islamic Republic on the nuclear issue. U.S. officials have told regional countries that Washington will not negotiate about the situation in the Strait of Hormuz, and the main topic of any potential negotiations with Tehran should be the Islamic Republic's nuclear program.

Marco Rubio, the U.S. Secretary of State, had also previously stated that the Strait of Hormuz should not be under the control of the Islamic Republic and that the U.S. would take action to ensure the security of shipping in this route. In contrast, the Islamic Republic and Oman have sought to involve regional countries in discussions about the mechanism for the passage of ships in the Strait of Hormuz. The results of Tehran and Muscat's consultations regarding safe shipping routes were to be presented to the regional countries at this meeting.

وزیر خارجه عمان از تعویق‌ نشست ایران و کشورهای حوزه خلیج فارس و منطقه خبر داد؛ نشستی که قرار بود روز دوشنبه ۲۳ شهریور در شهر صلاله عمان با محوریت وضعیت تنگه هرمز برگزار شود.

بدر بوسعیدی، وزیر خارجه عمان، روز یکشنبه ۲۲ شهریور در شبکه ایکس نوشت که این نشست «به منظور دستیابی به اجماع» به تعویق افتاده است.
او تاکید کرد عمان همچنان به تقویت گفت‌وگوهایی که به «ثبات و همکاری پایدار در منطقه» کمک کند، متعهد است.

عباس عراقچی، وزیر خارجه جمهوری اسلامی، پیشتر گفته بود که روز دوشنبه در نشست هشت‌جانبه وزرای خارجه کشورهای ساحلی خلیج فارس و دریای عمان در صلاله شرکت خواهد کرد.
قرار بود در این نشست درباره طرح ایران و عمان برای ایجاد سازوکاری جهت تردد امن کشتی‌ها در تنگه هرمز گفت‌وگو شود.

تعویق این نشست در حالی اعلام شده است که آمریکا پیشتر تاکید کرده بود در مذاکرات مربوط به تنگه هرمز مشارکت نخواهد کرد و هرگونه مذاکره مستقیم با جمهوری اسلامی را بر پرونده هسته‌ای متمرکز می‌کند.
مقام‌های آمریکایی به کشورهای منطقه گفته‌اند واشنگتن درباره وضعیت تنگه هرمز مذاکره نخواهد کرد و موضوع اصلی مذاکرات احتمالی با تهران باید برنامه هسته‌ای جمهوری اسلامی باشد.

مارکو روبیو، وزیر خارجه آمریکا، نیز پیشتر گفته بود تنگه هرمز نباید تحت کنترل جمهوری اسلامی باشد و آمریکا برای تضمین امنیت کشتیرانی در این مسیر اقدام خواهد کرد.
در مقابل، جمهوری اسلامی و عمان تلاش کرده‌اند کشورهای منطقه را در گفت‌وگو درباره سازوکار تردد کشتی‌ها در تنگه هرمز وارد کنند.
قرار بود نتایج رایزنی‌های تهران و مسقط درباره مسیرهای امن کشتیرانی در این نشست به کشورهای منطقه ارایه شود.
