The oil tanker Al-Ghaya is being towed to one of Oman’s ports after an attack off the coast of Oman and a fire in the engine room.

According to a Reuters report citing Omani officials, 23 crew members have been evacuated from the vessel, and two are still missing.

Accounts regarding the cause of the incident are contradictory. The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps stated that Al-Ghaya, flying the Panama flag, hit a sea mine while passing through a "restricted area" south of the Strait of Hormuz. The U.S. Central Command called the claim incorrect, stating that the vessel "was struck by an Iranian missile last month and became inoperable."

The International Maritime Organization reported that Al-Ghaya was damaged on Saturday, without specifying the cause.
