On Wednesday, September 25, Reuters reported, citing five informed sources, that U.S. officials met with representatives of the Iran-backed Houthi rebels over the past weekend (on Saturday or Sunday).

According to the report, three of these sources, who requested anonymity, stated that the undisclosed meeting took place at the U.S. Embassy in Muscat. Two other sources indicated that the Omani government, as a long-standing regional mediator, facilitated the holding of this meeting.

Donald Trump, in 2025 after regaining power, placed the Houthis on the list of "Foreign Terrorist Organizations" and criminalized any support for this group.

On Saturday, Trump stated that the Houthis had contacted his administration and requested that the United States stay out of the Yemen war. JD Vance, the Vice President, also emphasized on Monday, without providing details, that the United States is in direct contact with this group.

Two informed sources reported that in this meeting, which one of them said took place on Sunday, the Houthis told U.S. officials that they do not intend to attack American vessels and are committed to the 2025 ceasefire with the U.S.

One of these sources, who is Yemeni, said that the group also announced that they would not attack Israeli ships or any other commercial vessels, except for those belonging to Saudi Arabia.

خبرگزاری رویترز روز چهارشنبه ۲۵ شهریورماه به نقل از پنج منبع آگاه گزارش کرد که مقام‌های ایالات متحده آخر هفته گذشته (روزهای شنبه یا یکشنبه) با نمایندگان شورشیان حوثی مورد حمایت جمهوری اسلامی ایران، دیدار کرده‌اند.

براساس این گزارش سه تن از این منابع که خواستند نامشان فاش نشود گفتند این دیدار که رسانه‌ای نشده بود، در سفارت آمریکا در مسقط برگزار شد. دو منبع دیگر نیز اشاره کردند که دولت عمان، به عنوان میانجی باسابقه منطقه‌ای، به برگزاری این نشست کمک کرده است.

دونالد ترامپ در سال ۲۰۲۵ و پس از بازگشت به قدرت حوثی‌ها را در فهرست «سازمان‌های تروریستی خارجی» قرار داد و هرگونه حمایت از این گروه را جرم‌انگاری کرد.

ترامپ روز شنبه گفت حوثی‌ها با دولت او تماس تلفنی داشته و از ایالات متحده خواسته‌اند از جنگ یمن دور بماند. جی‌دی ونس، معاون رئیس‌جمهوری هم روز دوشنبه بدون ارائه جزئیات تاکید کرد که ایالات متحده در تماس مستقیم با این گروه است.

دو منبع آگاه اعلام کردند در این نشست که به گفته یکی از آن‌ها روز یکشنبه برگزار شد، حوثی‌ها به مقام‌های آمریکایی گفته‌اند قصد حمله به شناورهای آمریکایی را ندارند و به آتش‌بس سال ۲۰۲۵ با آمریکا متعهد هستند.

یکی از این منابع که یک یمنی است، گفت این گروه همچنین اعلام کرده‌اند که به کشتی‌های اسرائیلی یا هرگونه کشتی تجاری دیگر، به‌جز کشتی‌های متعلق به عربستان سعودی، حمله نخواهند کرد.
