The President of South Korea rejected the deployment of troops or military equipment to the Middle East if it would lead to Seoul's involvement in the war, but stated that his country may take on a greater role in protecting commercial shipping and oil transport in the region.

Lee Jae-myung said at a press conference on Friday, September 27, "No deployment that leads to entry or participation in the war will take place." He emphasized that South Korea will not send military equipment for such a purpose "in any way."

At the same time, he mentioned that Seoul must take "at least the necessary measures" to protect commercial ships, crude oil transport, and the security of its citizens, like other countries.

In recent weeks, the South Korean government has been considering the possibility of deploying troops or military equipment to help secure shipping in the Strait of Hormuz.

Donald Trump, the President of the United States, has criticized Seoul for what he called insufficient support for U.S. efforts related to the Iran war.

رئیس‌جمهور کره جنوبی اعزام نیرو یا تجهیزات نظامی به خاورمیانه را در صورتی که به مشارکت سئول در جنگ منجر شود رد کرد، اما گفت کشورش ممکن است برای حفاظت از کشتیرانی تجاری و انتقال نفت در منطقه نقش بیشتری بر عهده بگیرد.

لی جائه میونگ روز جمعه ۲۷ شهریور در یک نشست خبری گفت: «هیچ اعزامی که به ورود یا مشارکت در جنگ منجر شود، انجام نخواهد شد.» او تأکید کرد کره جنوبی برای چنین هدفی «به هیچ شکلی» تجهیزات نظامی اعزام نخواهد کرد.

او در عین حال گفت سئول باید مانند دیگر کشورها «حداقل اقدامات لازم» را برای حفاظت از کشتی‌های تجاری، انتقال نفت خام و امنیت شهروندان خود انجام دهد.

دولت کره جنوبی در هفته‌های اخیر در حال بررسی احتمال اعزام نیرو یا تجهیزات نظامی برای کمک به تأمین امنیت کشتیرانی در تنگه هرمز بود.

دونالد ترامپ، رئیس‌جمهور آمریکا، از سئول به دلیل آنچه حمایت ناکافی از تلاش‌های آمریکا در ارتباط با جنگ ایران خوانده، انتقاد کرده است.
