CBS News reported on Monday, September 30, citing informed sources, that Donald Trump, the President of the United States, had considered an attack on Iranian-backed Houthi militants in Yemen over the past weekend, but ultimately decided against military action late on Saturday.
According to the report, Trump was initially inclined not to take action during meetings on Wednesday with national security advisors, but after a phone call from Prince Mohammed bin Salman, the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia, on Thursday, he ordered the Pentagon to prepare for airstrikes. However, due to the White House's reluctance to expand the battlefield at this time, it was decided to refrain from U.S. military action for now.
Reuters also reported that Trump spoke on Monday with Rashad al-Alimi, the head of Yemen's Presidential Leadership Council. In recent weeks, amid escalating conflicts, the Houthis have managed to seize significant strategic areas, particularly along the Red Sea coast from the Yemeni government.
