On Saturday, October 2nd, the Fars News Agency reported hearing an explosion in the Strait of Hormuz and that a commercial ship was targeted on its way to Oman. Fars claimed that the oil tanker "Or Vinst," which was under U.S. escort, had turned off its tracking system upon entering the Strait of Hormuz. The state news agency wrote that this is the second targeting of an oil tanker in the Strait of Hormuz on Saturday. This news came after the Mehr News Agency reported an hour earlier about hearing explosions from the sea near Qeshm Island and suggested a possible connection between these sounds and the firing at "violating ships in the Strait of Hormuz."
