Two American media outlets have reported that the Pentagon is preparing for a possible renewed attack on Iran in the coming days.
Axios news site, citing American officials, reported that in recent days the Pentagon has issued a directive asking CENTCOM (U.S. Central Command in the Middle East) to complete its readiness process for resuming major combat operations against Iran.
Additionally, The Atlantic magazine, in an exclusive report citing two American officials, stated that the White House has asked the Pentagon to develop options for attacking Iranian targets that could be executed before the midterm elections.
According to The Atlantic, Donald Trump is eager to reduce gas prices before the elections and achieve a major breakthrough in the dispute with Iran.
Axios reported that the Pentagon's directive did not include a specific date for the start of attacks, and Donald Trump has not yet made a final decision.
