Saudi Arabia is pursuing the development of the Marjan oil field, valued at approximately $21 billion, to increase oil production capacity and gas processing; a shared field with Iran, whose Iranian section is named "Forouzan." According to the Iran Open Data Center report, Saudi Arabia extracts about 73 million cubic meters of gas daily from this field, while Iran does not produce gas from its section.
In the latest phase of Marjan's development, Saudi oil company Aramco has signed a contract with the American company KBR for the modernization of the field's facilities. KBR announced on Tuesday, October 6, 2026, that it will provide engineering and project execution services for the processing facilities, gas compression, and electrical infrastructure of Marjan.
