The New York Times and The Wall Street Journal have reported on the examination of new options for attacking Iran by the U.S. government and the strengthening of its military presence in the Middle East.
These reports come as President Donald Trump announced on Thursday, October 8, that the United States would not attack Iran before the midterm elections on November 3.
The New York Times, citing American officials, reported that the U.S. military is preparing options to resume large-scale combat operations against Iran, and the Pentagon has developed plans for attacks on Iran's drone and missile arsenals, energy facilities, and other military centers at Mr. Trump's direction.
According to officials who spoke with the newspaper, the President's National Security Team and the Pentagon have presented him with five proposals for conducting major operations against Iran or the Houthis in Yemen in recent months, but Mr. Trump has rejected these plans each time.
