The Saudi Arabian Civil Aviation Organization confirmed on Saturday, October 10, that operations at King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh have been halted following an attack on the airport that injured several individuals.

A diplomatic source told AFP that Houthi rebels from Yemen launched a missile attack on the airport around 3 PM local time. According to initial reports, dozens of people were injured in the attack.

The Wall Street Journal also reported, citing Saudi officials, that the missiles fired by the Houthis directly hit Terminal 3 of the airport.

A hospital source told AFP that five of the injured have been admitted to the intensive care unit. An eyewitness also stated that while at gate 403 of the domestic flights terminal, they witnessed a missile strike near gate 401, injuring passengers.

The witness told AFP: "I saw gate 401 being targeted and people were injured right in front of my eyes. Everyone was running away."

Saturday's attack occurred while Riyadh airport had already been targeted by Houthi attacks on Wednesday and Thursday. These attacks resulted in a total of four deaths and several injuries, and severely damaged a passenger aircraft belonging to the Saudi airline.

Three Saudi citizens, including a pilot, were killed in the Thursday attacks, and one Sudanese citizen was killed in the Wednesday attack. The Houthis have claimed responsibility for these attacks.

The escalation of missile attacks on Saudi Arabia has occurred following the resumption of widespread clashes between the Houthis and forces of the Riyadh-backed government in Yemen.
