According to a report by the French news agency citing two judicial sources in Kuwait, the country's criminal court has sentenced three men to death for plotting to assassinate the Deputy Prime Minister, collaborating with Iran, and being members of Hezbollah.
All three are from the Shia Muslim community, which makes up about one-third of Kuwait's population.
According to these sources, Hussein Abdullah Matouq, a religious figure and the Secretary-General of the "Islamic National Coalition," is among the three sentenced to death.
One of these individuals had previously been convicted of terrorism-related charges in 2016 but was later pardoned by the Emir of Kuwait. It is reported that this person was re-arrested in April.
These sources state that the individuals are accused of undermining national interests, collaborating with Iran, planning to assassinate the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, and being members of Hezbollah.
The Kuwaiti government considers Hezbollah a terrorist organization.
The court also sentenced 11 other individuals related to this case to five years of hard labor.
